Interior Painting

1. Color Selection

The first step in any interior painting project is color selection. If you plan to replicate the color already on your wall then you can simply use an old can of paint for reference or take a chip of paint to a paint specialist. If you hope to select a new color to give your home a fresh new look then there are a couple things to consider.

Color palette:
  • Depending on the color you choose, your room can take on a warm and cozy vibe, or a bright and vibrant energy.
  • If you have furniture that you do not intend to replace then you will need to coordinate your new color with your existing palette.
Sheen:

Flat: A flat sheen has a smooth matte finish. It’s the hardest to clean.

Satin: A satin finish works well in most rooms. It brings warmth and depth to a space and is easier to clean than flat.

Semi-Gloss: Semi-gloss finishes have a noticeable shine. Semi-gloss will highlight imperfections, but it’s easy to clean.

Gloss: A gloss finish is best for baseboards, doors and trims. It’s shiny, tough and durable and can withstand a lot of wear and tear.

With the vast number of options available color selection can become pretty complicated. Luckily there are a lot of really great resources for you to use when deciding on a new color for your home.

If you are still not sure what color to choose, Salas and Sons offers color consultation services to help you make the right choice.

2. Protect the Area

It’s our goal to leave your home in better condition than how we found it. That starts with protecting your furniture from damage. To ensure we take the utmost care of your home, our team will move furniture when possible and cover the rest with new sheets of painters plastic. We will also cover every square inch of floor with drop cloth to prevent paint from damaging carpets and flooring.

3. Prepare Surfaces

The next step in the painting process is to prepare surfaces for paint. The quality of your prep work directly affects the quality of the finished product. Salas and Sons’ interior painters take their time scraping any loose, cracked, or bubbling paint; patching small holes, cracks and dents, sealing stains, and sanding any surface imperfections.

4. Prime and Paint

After all surfaces are repaired and prepped we will spend some time priming unpainted drywall, sheetrock repairs, patches, freshly dried joint compound, and/or dark colored paint. We will also prime any surfaces previously painted with gloss or semi-gloss paint to encourage maximum adhesion.

Once the primer is dry we use the high quality paint you chose in step 1 to make your dream a reality. With over a decade in business we have quite a bit of experience with residential interior painting. However, we treat each job like it’s the most important one we’ve ever done. Like it’s our own.

5. Cleanup

As stated earlier, our goal is to leave your home in a better state than how we found it. The paint should take a few hours to dry and in the meantime you can go about business as usual. Once the process is complete we’ll remove all drop cloth and painter’s plastic, sweep the floors, vacuum the carpets, and return furniture to its original location.

Finally, it’s time for you to enjoy your home’s new look. Our Site Supervisor will walk with you through the space giving you a chance to provide any initial feedback. Your point of contact for this project will follow up with you sometime after the job is complete to ensure you are satisfied with our work and to give you a chance to review our process.
